If you do, realize you are more of the majority than the minority.
Often we have to do a check up from the neck up when this kind of negative thinking enters our brain.
Why do we fear failure?
It could be because of the horrible feeling we get when we don’t succeed at something.
OR
Maybe it’s how you feel others will see you as a result of it.
OR
It’s possibly because we are setting unrealistic expectations for ourselves.
No matter what the reason is, are we able to stop it from happening?
Of course we can try to do things to prevent it, however we can never truly stop it.
So, if we really want to have total control what we really need to do is change our mindset about failure.
What if we looked at it as just another way to not achieve our goal?
What if we looked at failure as a learning opportunity instead of the “lowest of the low”?
Think about it this way…
Have you ever tripped over something… or even over nothing?
Have you ever stepped where you shouldn’t have stepped?
Have you ever fallen down?
I’m guessing, if you’re a human being, you certainly have.
Now, how long have you been walking for?
Almost your entire life, right?
Do you ever stop and say, “This whole walking thing just isn’t for me. I’m going to go back to crawling again.”?
Of course not.
How long have you been speaking for?
Do you ever trip over your words?
Do you ever get tongue-tied?
Do you ever mispronounce a word?
Do you ever use the wrong word?
I’m sure you’ve experienced most, if not all, of those things too yet how long have you been able to talk?
I bet you never said to yourself, “This whole talking thing just ain’t for me.” and decided to just not speak for the rest of your life.
You see, we often take such little things for granted and don’t tend to think about them when it comes to bigger and loftier goals we have set for ourselves.
So, how can you learn to embrace failure more?
Allow yourself to get tongue-tied.
Allow yourself to trip.
Allow yourself to fall down.
The difference will be that instead of giving up you will turn it up and try even harder to keep going.
Instead of a losing moment, embrace it as a learning moment.
Trust me, life is much more fun to live when you don’t have to worry about living in fear of failure.
